Definitions

Giclée: A Giclée (zahee-clay) is a high resolution, high fidelity, high tech. individually produced reproduction. Created on a special large format printer. This process of making fine art prints from a digital source using inkjet printing was first created in the early 1990’s. The word is derived from the French language word ‘le gicleur’ meaning nozzle. The word was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne a print maker working in the field. Artists tend to use this type of process over traditional 4-color lithography because of the arts singular individuality. Lithography uses tiny dots of 4 colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, to full the eye into seeing various hues. Giclées employs 9 colors light cyan, cyan, light magenta, magenta, yellow, light black, light light black, black, and matte black. When useing photo paper, one of the black inks is substituted with photo black ink. This creates truer shades and hues.

Dry Mounting: While creating framing solutions the Dry Mounting treatment is used by professionals and museums around the world. A dry tissue adhesive is used that is activated by heat from a vacuum heat press to bond the canvas to a mounting board. In actuality the artwork is anchored to the chosen frame conventionally.

Standard limited edition is a limited number of prints produced, ” in most cases 1,500 to 3,000″. Limited editions are great investments since the product increases in value as the work sells out.

Hand enhanced means the reproduction is highlighted by oil paints, watercolor, inks, etc. in certain areas of the image to give the appearance of an original painting.

Canvas has become the most common support medium for oil painting. The word canvas is derived from the 13century Angelo French ‘canevaz’. The modern canvas is usually made of cotton. Canvas can be printed onto using specialized digital printers to create canvas prints. This process of digital inkjet printing on canvas is popularly referred to as Giclée.

Stretcher bars are frames used by artist to mount their canvases.
